Hello, My name is Cherylann. I have been designing beautiful floral arrangements and bouquets for weddings since 1980. I’m a graduate of Rittner’s Floral Design School in Boston, Mass. I am the owner of a small floral business in Hershey, Pa. since 1997. I have seen trends come and go and feel that is very important to stay up to date with the latest styles and the hottest colors. I absolutely love weddings.
Planning flowers for your wedding should be the most enjoyable part of the planning process. When you and your fiancé have set the big date for your wedding, after planning where the ceremony and reception will be held you will want to contact a florist. Usually, 6 months to a year in advance. Plan to sit down for about 45 min. to an 1 hour, to go over the details of the day. You need to know you have a team player with your florist to help you create the most beautiful day. It may be a good idea to check with some of your friends and family members about experiences they might have had with Florist in the area.
Start looking at magazines to see colors and styles of floral bouquets, earmark and save the photo’s you like the most. This will help you explain to the florist what you have in your mind. Here’s an idea… Think about your favorite flowers you’ve known throughout your life. It is an important day, this is when all those memories come to life. Hopefully you will have a chance to pick out the dress of your dreams. It’s time to discuss ideas of the flowers you would like to carry. Don’t worry…. If you don’t know exactly, this is where a photograph will come in handy. Your florist will also be able to suggest some beautiful timeless bouquets that will go perfect with the dress.
The next thing you want to think about, after you decide what color your bridesmaids dress will be, is what color flowers will compliment the dresses. It’s not a good idea to match the dresses, because in photographs the color will fade right into the dress. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with the names of the flowers or what season they are grown in. Your florist should know. They will guide you to all the flowers that are available in the season of your wedding. You really should feel comfortable with your florist , after all, flowers are a very personal part of your day.
After planning the personal flowers it’s time to think about some ideas for your church/ceremony decorations. Brides usually plan for flowers on the alter/ceremony area, and pew decorations down the aisle. There a lot of ideas you can use here, make sure you discuss all your options with your florist. This can really set the mood here.
Now it’s time to talk about ideas for your reception. This is when the newlyweds have a chance to relax , celebrate and enjoy this magical time with your family and friends. Your guest will arrive and usually look to find out what table they are sitting at?, and with who?. A mass of petals looks great for the place card table or a vase of beautiful flowers. It’s fun to be creative with this area.
You want to think about if you want your centerpieces high or low on the tables, or maybe both. When you walk into the room, is when the high arrangements really make the best impression. There are so many great ideas for table centerpieces , one of my favorites is actually using 3 different looks , same color scheme. A few tables with candles, some breathtaking high arrangements on pedistals or vases, combined with some low arrangements designed into bowls filled with lush beautiful flowers. It’s a great way to control costs, and yet have that “over the top” look.
